Tracy, Calif. – In preparation for the cold, wet, and windy weather we experience during the winter season in Tracy, the following resources are available to help protect homes, businesses, the environment, and each other:

• Monitor the forecast: National Weather Service.
• Check and clean private drainage systems and keep curbs/gutters clear. Fill your yard waste bin first, and place any leaf piles in the street away from the curb to ensure the gutters remain clear. If your leaf pile is not picked up by Saturday, please call Tracy Disposal: (209) 835-0601.
• During inclement weather conditions, sandbags are available at the Boyd Service Center, located at 520 Tracy Blvd, Gate #1. There is a self-serve area with a limit of 10 bags. Watch this if you're not sure how to use the equipment provided to fill bags.
• Report flooding problems or downed limbs/trees in Tracy to our Operations & Utilities Department by calling (209) 831-6300 during normal business hours, or Tracy Police Department’s non-emergency line after hours: (209) 831-6550. Non-urgent issues may also be reported online, through the Go Tracy app (free from the App Store or Google Play), or by emailing publicworks@cityoftracy.org. Please provide as many details as possible regarding the location and issues you are reporting.
• When temperatures drop, take the necessary precautions to protect pets, plants, pipes, and people:
• Check on relatives, neighbors, & friends who are elderly or live alone.
• Make sure outdoor pets have shelter from the cold.
• Dress warm or in layers.
• If needed for heat, only use generators and grills outdoors and away from windows.
• Never heat your home with a gas stovetop or oven.
• Check before you burn – this applies to all indoor and outdoor residential devices that burn solid fuel, including wood, pellets and manufactured wood (such as Duraflame logs).  For more information, visit Valley Air District’s website, or call 1-800-SMOG-INFO (1-800-766-4463).
• Protect sensitive outdoor vegetation that could be killed by frost if left uncovered.

• Drive with extra caution during inclement weather:

• Follow San Joaquin County Office of Emergency Services (@SJCOES) on social media and sign up for SJREADY Alerts here.
• Customers dependent on life-support equipment, CPAP machines, and/or require special heating or cooling needs for certain medical conditions should sign up for PG&E’s Medical Baseline Program. To make sure customers know about a potential safety outage, extra notifications are also provided through PG&E’s Vulnerable Customer Status program.
• PG&E customers are encouraged to prepare for the storm by having an emergency plan and updating their contact information online for real-time updates on outages in their neighborhood. Sign up for Pacific Gas and Electric Company notifications in case of weather-related power outages, to report outages, and view the current outage map.

The City of Tracy Operations & Maintenance team has been removing debris from storm drains and channels to minimize potential flooding in streets and neighborhoods during storms.  These efforts also help avert pollution from reaching our local waterways. Community volunteers can help keep the storm drains in their neighborhoods free of debris by participating in the “Maintain-a-Drain” program.  Volunteers who choose to participate will receive a kit, which includes a rain poncho, leaf rake, safety vest, and plastic bags.  By removing debris before it enters storm drains, runoff is allowed to move more freely through the City’s storm drainage system.  Volunteers interested in joining the program should contact the Operations & Utilities Department: (209) 831-6300.
