Building Board of Appeals established by Ordinance 602 C.S. and revised by Ordinance 1176 to establish a Board of Appeals
Membership Qualifications
The Building Board of Appeals shall consist of five (5) members appointed by the Mayor with advice and consent of the Council. The Board shall consist of members who are qualified by experience and training to pass on matters pertaining to building construction (such as licensed contractors, engineers and architects). This is a non-compensated position.
Term and Residency Requirements
The term of office for each member shall be four (4) years with staggered terms. Vacancies occurring during a term shall be filled for the unexpired period of such term. Members shall serve at the pleasure of the Council and may be removed from office without cause upon an affirmative vote of the majority of the Council. A member shall be neither an elected officer nor an employee of the City. This is the only board where a person may be a member of another City board or commission. A member need not be a resident of the City to participate.

Duties
To hear appeals of administrative decisions regarding use of alternative materials, interpretations pertaining to enforcement of any provision of the Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical and Fire Codes and related regulations of the City.
To hear appeals of administrative decisions in the application of the Uniform Housing Code, Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings and related sections of the Code in actions declaring certain building structures or conditions therein substandard, unsanitary, or hazardous and requiring their consideration, rehabilitation, reconstruction, correction or abatement as applicable.
