Tracy, CA – The City of Tracy is pleased to announce that it has received a significant grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. Awarded last Friday, November 15, this grant will support the development of a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan aimed at reducing and ultimately eliminating roadway fatalities and serious injuries in Tracy.
The City of Tracy's new plan will prioritize roadway safety for all users, with a special focus on underserved communities, including children, seniors, and those who rely on walking or biking for transportation. The goal is to create safer streets and promote healthy, sustainable travel options across the city.
Key elements of the plan include:
- Improving Student Safety: Addressing gaps in pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure around schools to make it safer for children to walk and bike.
- Encouraging Active Transportation: Promoting and encouraging more students to walk or bike to school, reducing traffic congestion and fostering healthier lifestyles.
- Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program: Expanding the Safe Routes to School program, which will provide safer pathways for students traveling to and from school.
- Community Engagement: Actively involving residents in the planning process to ensure the safety improvements reflect the needs of the entire community.
