Items We Have Found in Battery Boxes that DO NOT Belong There
The Solid Waste and Recycling Division would like the public to remember safety when it comes to disposing of all batteries. Batteries are considered universal waste and cannot be disposed of in the regular garbage. That means they must be recycled to protect the environment. The City offers an easy and flexible way to recycle batteries and portable electronic devices. There are several designated locations around Tracy (listed below) that have battery recycling boxes for residents to drop off used batteries to keep them out of the landfill.
What items can go into the battery recycling box? All batteries that are alkaline, dry-cell, lithium, lithium ion, nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, rechargeable, and solar. You may also place cellular telephones, pagers, wireless communication devices such as PDA’s, MP3’s, chargers, and any other small devices that are designed to operate on battery power. All lithium batteries (rechargeable and single use) have to be either taped (with clear tape) or each individually bagged. Corroded batteries should be bagged separately from other batteries.
Drop off is always free!
