SMART IRRIGATION CONTROLLER REPLACEMENT PROGRAM - COMMERCIAL AND MULTI-FAMILY

This program is only for properties built before 2016  (water-efficient landscapes and irrigation were required by the City of Tracy after this date) and is designed to have City of Tracy Utility customers who are property owners replace their current non-water smart irrigation controller with a new Smart one.  Smart Timers use information about your plants, soil, and weather conditions to give your landscape the right amount of water year-round. They allow for more accurate, customized irrigation by automatically adjusting the schedule and amount of water in response to changing weather conditions.

SMART IRRIGATION CONTROLLER REBATE

The City offers rebates as an incentive for utility customers to upgrade conventional controllers by purchasing and installing Smart Irrigation Controllers. It is estimated that up to 50% of the water applied to landscapes is wasted due to incorrect controller settings and infrequent adjusting of those settings. Smart Irrigation Controllers adjust the watering schedule automatically as the weather changes.

Eligibility

This rebate is available for commercial, industrial and multi-family properties built prior to 2016.

Rebate Amount

The rebate is $20 per active (used) irrigation station (zone) or list price of the control, which ever is less with a maxium of $500 for commercial, industrial and multi-family properties.  Limit one rebate per customer per address.  Properties may qualify for more than one controller however prior authorization is required.

For example, if you purchase a smart irrigation controller and you have seven (7) irrigation stations (zone), the zone calculation would be $140 = (20 x 7), but the control cost $95. You may be issued a rebate of the $95 as it is less than the per Zone cost.

Limit one controller rebate per customer per address without pre-approval.

Terms & Conditions

To receive a rebate, applicants must adhere to the Smart Irrigation Controller Rebate Program for Commercial and Multi-Family Terms & Conditions. Please read these before applying.

Qualifying Smart Controllers

Qualified Smart Irrigation Controllers must be EPA WaterSense labeled. Look for the EPA WaterSense label on the box or cover of the Smart Irrigation Controller(s) you purchase. The EPA WaterSense website has a product search feature that allows you to view all labeled smart irrigation controllers by selecting irrigation controllers in the product category dropdown menu. For Smart Irrigation Controllers without the EPA WaterSense label, contact us for approval prior to purchase.

Ensuring Savings and Plant Health

Adjusting standard settings may be necessary to achieve water savings and ensure plant health. Standard Smart Controller setting options may not reflect your site's conditions, irrigation system, or plant water needs. The City of Tracy may provide assistance in making needed adjustments, but the customer must look for and identify signs of over or under watering.

Many controllers have standard settings that provide ample water for the conditions you select. Your landscape may be currently receiving less water than these settings will apply. Plant health and soil conditions should be observed before installing a smart controller and adjustments made to the settings if lush plant growth or wetter than normal soil are noticed to ensure that additional or over watering does not occur.

Where to Purchase

Smart Irrigation Controllers can be purchased wherever irrigation controllers are sold. Remember to look for the WaterSense Label before you purchase to confirm the controller qualifies for the rebate.
