City Trees
The City of Tracy maintains 35,700 trees that can be found on City property or in the right-of-way of neighborhood. The Urban Forestry program encompasses inspection, preservation, trimming, removal and planting of trees. The City aims to trim City trees every five to seven years depending on funding and the type trimming cycle per species.
General Fund
The General Fund currently manages an urban forest consisting of nearly 9,900 existing trees. Trimming is performed primarily following a programmed-pruning program, but also responds to specific work requests as needed.
Special Assessment Districts
One of the reasons for Tracy's high quality of life is the way it looks. Our neighborhoods have beautiful landscaping, parkways, neighborhood parks, natural flood control channels, and walking paths.
Many of the areas with enhanced landscaping pay a special assessment through their property taxes for these amenities. It can be in the form of a Landscape Maintenance District ("LMD") or Community Facility District ("CFD"). These Districts have zones that have various funding levels. Some levels have less funding than other and restrict the City's ability to trim trees at higher frequencies. Combined the Districts have 25,800 trees.
